MCMULLEN, Elinor (Hazen)

Elinor (Hazen) McMullen, 89, of Bloomfield, wife of the late William T. McMullen, Sr., died Wednesday (August 20, 2008), at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Bethlehem, NH, the daughter of the late Allen E. and Helen (Simonds) Hazen, she attended the University of New Hampshire. A labor pioneer, Elinor was one of the first four women to work in a manufacturing position at Colt just prior to and during World War II. She left the position to raise her family. When her children were older, she went back to work part time with the Travelers for 20 years. Elinor was an active volunteer through the Travelers Women's Club and volunteered with Loaves and Fishes through the First Church of Christ Congregational, West Hartford. She was also very active with the Bloomfield Senior Center and C.R.T. for many years. She is survived by her five sons, William T. McMullen, Jr. and his wife, Takeko, of Virginia Beach, VA, Richard J. McMullen and his wife, Deborah, of West Hartford, Robert A. McMullen and his wife, Kathei, of Enfield, Peter N. McMullen and his wife, Sherry, of West Hartford, and Timothy J. McMullen and his wife, Sheryl, of Vernon. She also leaves ten grandchildren, Thomas, Linda, William III, Sean, Erin, Lauren, Patrick, Kate, Tara, and David; six great- grandchildren, Jessica, Kimberly, Justin, Adam, Emma, and Valentino; her cousin, Barbara Bartlett Hill of Littleton, NH; and several treasured nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Magnuson, and Margaret Rau. Elinor's family wishes to thank the staff of Bloomfield Health Care and St. Francis Hospital for their loving care, and the CCCI – Seabury for enabling Elinor to remain in her home for so long. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 24, 2 p.m. at the Chapel of First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford. Burial will be private at Soldier's Field, Windsor. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions in her memory be made to The Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Glastonbury, 1361 Main Street, Glastonbury 06033. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
